Consumer Product Compliance Expert

Clive Shelton, an expert in the field of consumer product compliance, is the Convener of CEN TC/52/WG9/TG1 (organic chemicals in toys) and a member of the CEN and BSI toy safety committees. He is an active participant in this work and closely involved in the drafting of toy standards for the UK and Europe. Clive is also the Principal UK expert on the ISO toys safety committee - TC 181.

He started his career in the commercial sector with Nestlé after gaining a degree in Chemistry from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1982 he left Nestlé to join the Laboratory of the Government Chemist at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), where he stayed for three years. After leaving the DTI, Mr. Shelton qualified as a Public Analyst and was a founding Partner of Central Scientific Laboratories in London. When that firm was merged with Eurofins Scientific UK he became Quality Director and Associate Director with responsibilities for the Consumer Safety Division.

In January 2003 Clive Shelton founded Clive Shelton Associates, a business consultancy advising companies on a wide range of Consumer Product Compliance Issues.

Mr. Shelton is a Lead Assessor for UKAS and HOKLAS, the laboratory accrediting bodies in the UK and Hong Kong/China.

Mr. Shelton is a member of several professional bodies including the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Institute of the Food Science and Technology and the Association of Public Analysts.
